Help Kimberly Heal & Maintain Her Independence
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kimberly Cato. I’m a psychotherapist, a sister, a partner, a friend, and a lifelong caregiver to others. For decades, I’ve offered support and healing to people navigating grief, trauma, illness, and life transitions. Today, I find myself in the vulnerable position of needing that same support from my community.
In November 2024, I was hospitalized after a severe medical crisis that resulted in a diagnosis of diabetes, kidney failure, and left me bedridden. Since I returned home from the hospital, I’ve required round-the-clock care, including multiple nursing visits per week and the daily support of personal support workers (PSWs) to help me bathe, dress, manage wounds, and teach me to adjust to my new physical reality.
This health crisis changed everything. I’ve had to radically adjust how I live, work, and care for myself. Though my spirit remains strong and I am healing — stronger today than I was even a few months ago — the reality is that my day-to-day life now requires additional resources. And those come at a cost.
While I am fortunate to have a loving partner (Trevor), a steadfast brother (Hugh), and a caring circle of friends, I also know I cannot and should not rely on them to carry everything. To ease the pressure on those closest to me — and to preserve my dignity, safety, and stability — I am asking for your help.
Your donations will go directly toward:
- Mortgage payments to ensure I remain housed and stable
- Medical supplies and hygiene essentials not covered
- Grocery delivery fees and gratuities (since I cannot leave my bed and rely on others to select and deliver my food & essentials)
- Housekeeping assistance (as I am unable to clean or manage my home environment myself)
- Additional in-home support beyond what PSWs provide — help with laundry, cleaning, organization, and the small daily tasks that keep a household functioning
This is not easy to share. Vulnerability never is. But I know there is strength in asking, and that community care is real.
Though I am still in bed, I am getting stronger. I can sit up longer, tend to my body more attentively, and am slowly learning how to live and nourish myself in new ways. I am relaunching my professional work, too — with clinical supervision offerings and therapy bundles that support racialized communities. But healing and rebuilding take time. And right now, I need support to bridge that gap.
If you’re able to give — whether $25, $100, or simply share this link — I will receive your kindness with humility and deep gratitude.
Thank you for helping me remain safely housed, cared for, and on the path to continued healing and recovery. Thank you for seeing me.
With love and appreciation,
Kimberly
