Support Kimberly Bryant, Black Girls Code Founder

Most of us in the alum group started with Kimberly Bryant when we were 6 and 7 years old. As alums of Black Girls Code, we are proud to look back at all of our accomplishments since our inception as mentees of Ms. Kimberly.

Today we are young women attending or graduating from college, working in tech and media, and we owe it to Ms. Kimberly to support her the same way she did many years ago. We want to invite you to help our mentor, who inspired us to tap into our greatness as young Black women.

Kimberly Bryant founded Black Girls Code in 2011, a nonprofit organization that promotes technology education by introducing girls of color ages 7-17 to technology and computer science with a concentration on entrepreneurial concepts. Ms. Kimberly built Black Girls Code to help girls, especially girls of color, pursue careers in the high-tech computer coding industry globally and has personally mentored many of the over 30,000 girls the organization has served over the past 10 years.

In December 2021, board member Heather Hiles led the efforts of a special board committee to remove Ms. Kimberly from the organization she created from the ground up. Hiles is believed to have led the charge to control Black Girl Code's $30 million dollars in donated philanthropic funds. Ms. Kimberly filed a federal lawsuit alleging wrongful termination and conflict of interest by board member Heather Hiles, who initiated the hostile takeover, Bryant's removal from BGC's board, and her wrongful termination as CEO. Furthermore, Ms. Kimberly seeks damages from BGC Board and Heather Hiles for spreading baseless rumors and allegations to further defame Ms. Kimberly's name and reputation as a pioneer in mentoring and STEM programs for Black girls.

Heather Hiles has done more than hurt Ms. Kimberly, a Black woman who has dedicated the last decade to inspiring and mentoring Black girls. Heather Hiles is single-handedly destroying the very community created to impact and uplift.

Ms. Kimberly continues to pursue all legal avenues to right all the wrongdoings against her and the organization she built before it's too late for Black Girls Code and the young girls of color it serves. We are eager to help Ms. Kimberly Bryant. The funds will be used to: 1) Help pay Ms. Kimberly’s attorney fees, 2) Remove financial barriers (such as healthcare coverage which was stripped away when Ms. Kimberly was wrongfully terminated), 3) Help Ms. Kimberly build financial capital to support other Black founders and innovators.
