Help Kimberly As She Teaches & Waits For Help

Le'ts help Kim!! COVID has affected someone I care about in the every day financial way and I'd like to help her by sharing with y'all!

Kimberly Ziegler (I call her Kim) suffers from asthma and usually this isn't a huge life deal, but... with COVID cleaning protocols it truly is.  How?   Due to health issues and workers' comp being ndenied, she can not make truly important bills: rent, insurance, car payment, and gas to get to her medical treatment center.   She is working in one of the areas we all value and want to support: teaching! These funds as needed.. yesterday.

Here is what Kim says:

"I never knew that I’d be asking for ADA accommodations as a teacher with asthma. With ATPE’s guidance I have started the process, but it is going to take time. When we were face to face in August, in spite of fear that having a respiratory condition was putting me at a higher risk, I answered the call to teach. When students were offered remote learning in addition to my face to face duties, I answered the call to teach. However, my asthma has been exacerbated into an out-of-control state secondary to bleach exposure due to COVID-19 cleaning procedures. I have been under a physician’s care since November. I’ve gone through 6 cycles of oral steroids, 3 cycles of antibiotics (hooray the secondary infection battle has been won this time!), I’m taking my usual maintenance medications, and I am on a step-up of 2 additional nebulizer medications. I have worked from home to the best of my current abilities. Admittedly, it’s not my baseline abilities. Please imagine climbing 3 flights of stairs constantly for 3 months while breathing through a coffee stirrer. I have faith that my respiratory system will heal! I just need to avoid bleach. The work I’ve done from home has been without pay as I am on FMLA. In fact, I’m actually going to owe money the next two pay periods in order to keep my health insurance. Even though the bleach exposure that started the cascade of events occurred at work during school hours, my worker’s compensation claim has been denied. I am in the process of contesting this denial, but even if a favorable outcome occurs, it will not be in time for me to pay for my insurance or rent. I have been able to obtain the first Covid vaccine, and hope to receive the second dose on schedule. As soon as that additional layer of protection is in place and an accommodation of no bleach exposure at work is in place, it is my intention to return to the classroom and finish out the school year. I’m seeking assistance to bridge the gap."

I worked with Kim at Texas Lions Camp when we were both.... younger. ;)  She is a kind, smart, humble, and generous women.  I am proud to know her.

This fundraiser amount will help her meet these basic financial needs for two months.  Can you please contribute?
