I’m Kimberly, and at 66 I’m facing a new medical challenge after spending nearly two decades battling Cushing’s syndrome and Cushing’s disease. This year, I was also diagnosed with a rare and complex brain condition called transverse intracranial venous sinus stenosis. I’m very fortunate to have been accepted as a patient at a specialized neuroendovascular institute with an interdisciplinary team that can address the neurological, ophthalmologic, vascular, and related issues I’m dealing with. That hope comes with real costs, though, as this next phase of care means multiple new physicians, more scans, tests, labwork, medications, and related medical bills.

Transverse intracranial venous sinus stenosis has brought a whole cascade of difficult symptoms into my daily life: eye troubles, balance issues, falls, tremors, and an unremitting headache that simply never lets up. On top of that, the specialty medication I need has also led to serious dental needs. I already see three neurology experts, but I now need to add even more specialists to my team. I’m an extroverted person by nature, but taking on more “friends” who come with copays, labs, scans, and transportation needs is a supreme challenge.

I’m asking for help as I manage these growing expenses, along with increased travel costs for out-of-state care and the need for some support at home during recovery. Donations will also help me make sure my two beloved “house panthers” are cared for when I’m hospitalized or traveling for treatment. I’m deeply grateful for the fellow patients, medical researchers, and care team members who have given me so much hope and understanding this past year. I’ve tried to give that same support back by advocating for research funding for rare and complex diseases. If you’re able to donate or share this fundraiser, thank you for standing with me. With your support, I truly believe I will overcome this challenge too.
