Earlier this year, my aunt, Kim Waddington, was given something she never thought she would have: a second chance. After more than 30 years of living with severe knee damage, she was finally able to undergo the double knee replacement surgeries that doctors once told her would never be possible. While the surgeries have been life changing, the months of recovery, medical expenses, and time away from work have left her facing an unexpected financial crisis. She is now at risk of losing the small business she has spent the last 25 years building.
For decades, Kim lived with debilitating pain after being told that the severity of her injuries, combined with her weight, made her ineligible for surgery. She couldn't walk more than a few feet at a time without assistance and relied heavily on mobility aids. Even so, she refused to let her circumstances define her. Instead, she poured everything she had into building ClipPets Grooming, a business that has faithfully served our community since May 2001. Determined to change her future, Kim committed herself to becoming healthier. Through five years of consistent exercise, healthy eating, and incredible perseverance, she lost 155 pounds, going from 325 pounds to 170, without weight loss surgery or medication. Her determination made what once seemed impossible a reality: she finally qualified for the knee replacements she had spent decades hoping for. Today, she is recovering well and is expected to return to work by mid-July. For the first time in over 30 years, she has the opportunity to move through life without the constant, unbearable pain that shaped so much of her daily life. Watching her regain her independence has been nothing short of incredible.
Unfortunately, while Kim has been healing, the expenses have continued. Like many small business owners, the bills don't stop when you're unable to work. Shop rent, operating expenses, and medical costs have continued to accumulate during her recovery, leaving her struggling to keep the doors open until she can return to earning an income. The funds raised through this fundraiser will help cover the overdue rent for her shop, essential business expenses, and medical costs incurred during her recovery. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help bridge the gap and give Kim the opportunity to return to the business she has devoted so much of her life to building.
Our family will always be grateful to Dr. Carter and his incredible staff for giving Kim this second chance. After three decades of pain, she has been given a future that once felt impossible. Now we're asking our community to help ensure that this new beginning doesn't come at the cost of everything she has worked so hard to build. If you've ever known Kim, you've likely experienced her kindness, her determination, and the care she's shown to both people and their pets over the past 25 years. Now she needs our help. Thank you for taking the time to read her story. If you're able to donate, we are deeply grateful. If you're not in a position to give, sharing this fundraiser with your friends, family, and community would mean just as much. Every share helps us reach someone who may be able to make a difference.
