For over two decades, I dedicated myself to my work and to helping others in my community. I never imagined I’d be facing this moment—laid off after 21 years, just months away from Social Security retirement eligibility, with no savings or 401k to fall back on. The sudden loss of my job has left me in a place of deep uncertainty and fear, unsure how I’ll keep a roof over my head or meet my most basic needs.

I’ve always prided myself on being a provider and a source of support for others. Now, I find myself on the other side, reaching out for help. Each day is a struggle to cover housing, medical needs, utilities, car payment and insurance, and the phone and internet that keep me connected to the world and potential opportunities.
