Hi, my name is Kim. I’m a grandmother (GG) who has been working hard to rebuild my life and create stability. Just when I was starting to feel grounded again, a fire in my apartment building caused severe water damage and destroyed many of my belongings.

Now I’m facing something I never expected, having to start over again. My first priority is securing a safe place to call home. I’ll be moving into another unit soon. In about two weeks, I’ll be responsible for a $200 rent increase, along with $300+ in utilities, while also replacing essential items like furniture, clothing, shoes, food, and basic electronics.

I did not have insurance, so I am handling this on my own. On top of that, I’ve had to take time off work to attend meetings with apartment management and fire-related organizations, which has added financial strain.

Emotionally, this has been very difficult. Many of my memories and personal belongings were damaged or lost. I’m doing my best to stay strong, but I truly need help to get back on my feet.
