Hi, my name is Kim. Over the past month and a half, I had to step away from my jobs to support my mom as she transitioned into hospice care. Between flights to and from Indiana, renting a car to get her settled in a nursing home, and quickly realizing that wasn’t the right fit for her, I made the decision to fly back, bring her to Salt Lake City, and provide her with in-home care alongside my partner. We gave her a makeover to help her feel confident, treated her to delicious meals, and took her on small adventures. Sadly, her health declined rapidly over the course of just three days, and she passed away almost three weeks after arriving here.
During this time, I applied for Medicaid assistance as a caregiver, but it has yet to be approved. We had hoped my mom's last Social Security check would help cover rent for this month, but that isn't guaranteed either. My credit cards are maxed out from covering cremation expenses and financing flight payments.
I've already received so much help throughout this journey, and I truly hate to ask for more, but any additional support would be a huge relief in helping us get back on track.
