Help Kim Heal from Workplace Injury and Keep their home
This is my friend Kim, who has been recovering from a traumatic injury sustained at work. Kim needs your help in order to avoid losing their home because of their inability to work due to their traumatic brain injury. They hope to turn their experience of a sudden disability into a life spent advocating for the disability community and helping people embrace life after disability. In order to work towards this goal, they need to be able to have stable housing; keeping their home.
Anyone can become a member of the disability community at any time, however, no one ever thinks it is going to happen to them. Unfortunately, one day while working at a grocery store, Kim unexpectedly sustained a brain injury and is permanently disabled. Kim wasmoving a 6 foot tall cart of boxes when unexpectedly the boxes fell and a 40 pound box of produce forcibly fell on Kim’s head. Kim was left with a concussion and a bulging disc in their spine (C5 C6). Since that day, they have been living with chronic pain. Kim’s neurologist is concerned that the bulging disc is pressing on their spinal cord, causing neuropathy in their arms and legs. The injury has caused vertigo, blurred vision, migraines, and numbness in their limbs. Kim can only stand for a brief period of time before feeling like they are going to faint, or lose their balance and fall. Even walking in their apartment or neighborhood usually results in dizziness and fatigue, and simple tasks like household chores or running errands have become impossible without the help of their wonderful friends.
As if the physical pain wasn’t enough, Kim has also been trapped in a legal and financial nightmare. Kim is unable to work due to their disability, and is ineligible for unemployment. Although they have begun the process of going on Disability, that process can take years. Until that is approved, they do not have financial support.
Since Kim was injured, their landlord has been incredibly supportive, giving Kim time to pay him the owed rent while they healed. But even he can no longer support them, and has given Kim until January 1, 2025 to pay him the past due rent. Kim doesn’t want to leave their home, and frankly cannot afford to move, neither financially, or physically.
While they are caught in a broken system, you can help kim keep their apartment. Kim’s landlord has been so supportive of Kim, but has reached the limit of what he can shoulder financially. He does not want to have to evict Kim, but he can no longer financially handle being flexible with Kim‘s rent payments. Please help Kim keep their home by donating so they have access to a living space.
If you can donate, you’ll be helping Kim keep their home and focus on life after recovery. Every little bit counts. your financial assistance, will allow kim to remain in safe and stable housing. Kim is forever grateful for your kindness and generosity.
Thank you for taking the time to hear about their story and for offering support!
