UPDATE 10/20/25 - Ruby was given another round of antibiotics for 2 weeks for her pneumonia after a round of X-Rays. She is on the mend - but still needs EXTRA care. Kim & Jim found a handy way to feed Ruby so she eats her food upright! Eating off a chair Jim removed from a vehicle. :-) Works super great! Continued financial and emotional support is needed. A lot of you know that super hero pet parents Kimberly Cool Drath & Jim Drath got some horrible news regarding their beloved pittie, Ruby. She has aspiration pneumonia (a lung infection that occurs when a dog inhales foreign material, such as food, vomit, or saliva). This is due to the NON-curable condition the vet diagnosed called megaesophagus (a condition in dogs where the esophagus, the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach, becomes abnormally enlarged, causing regurgitation of undigested food shortly after eating).

Kim & Jim are treating both conditions with medications, follow-up vet care with specialists, feeding Ruby in an upright position so that gravity will help get the food to her stomach and stay there to prevent regurgitation, and LOTS & LOTS of extra TLC!!!

This comes after her double eye enucleation (a surgical procedure that involves the removal of the entire eye from the eye socket) in Jan 2025. This was done due to the many painful eye infections Ruby suffered since she was adopted in 2021 being completely blind. Unfortunately, Ruby came from a very inhumane beginning, but Jim & Kim vowed to give Ruby the life EVERY dog deserves.

The money raised will go towards the already hefty vet bills, the many more to come, meds, gas, and hopefully a Bailey Chair (a specialized chair for dogs with megaesophagus to help the parents with feeding).

I know we all have our own vet bills. But not many of us have to go through something as expensive and scary as this. If we all help a little, it will help Kim, Jim, & Ruby A LOT!!! Thank you for caring, prayers, and paws-i-tive vibes!
