Help Kim Keep Her Home and Rebuild Her Life After Butch

On August 14, 2026, our family lost Vernon R. “Butch” Vanderpool after a long and courageous battle with devastating health complications. Butch was a loving husband, brother, uncle, friend, and one of the kindest people you could ever meet. He fought incredibly hard, but after months of serious illness, multiple infections, lung failure, heart problems, kidney failure, and multi-organ failure, his body could no longer continue. Butch’s greatest concern throughout his illness was his wife, Kim. Kim is only 55 years old. She and Butch built their life together, and now she is facing the unimaginable task of moving forward without the man she loved and depended on for so much. On top of the heartbreak of losing her husband, Kim is now facing a frightening financial reality. Because of her age, she cannot immediately rely on survivor benefits from Butch’s Social Security. Under current Social Security rules, she generally would need to reach the applicable age before receiving unreduced survivor benefits. This leaves her facing years of financial uncertainty without the income Butch provided. Unfortunately, Butch’s insurance and 401(k) will not be enough to pay off their home. Even if Kim is approved for SSI, that income alone will not be enough to consistently cover the mortgage payment and the many other expenses that come with maintaining a home. We are asking for help so Kim can keep the home she and Butch and son Alex shared and have some stability while she tries to figure out what life looks like without him. This isn’t just about a house. It is the home where Kim and Butch made their memories, shared their lives, and built their future together. After everything Kim has endured watching her husband fight for his life, the last thing we want is for her to lose her home on top of losing Butch. Any money raised will go toward helping Kim with the mortgage, utilities, insurance, property taxes, food, and other necessary living expenses while she works through this incredibly difficult transition. If you know Butch, you know the kind of man he was. He was always willing to help others. He had a truly kind heart and lived by his words: “Don’t mistake my kindheartedness for weakness.” He did whatever it took for the people he loved. Now it is our turn to do something for the person he loved most. If you are able to donate, no amount is too small. If you aren’t able to give financially, sharing this fundraiser with your family, friends, and social networks would mean more than you know. Please help us give Kim the time and security she needs to grieve her husband without having to immediately fear losing the home they shared. Thank you for loving Butch, supporting Kim, praying for our family, and helping us carry her through this heartbreaking chapter. Rest peacefully, Butch. We will take care of Kim. ❤️
