My name is Killian, you may know me from school or church or from where I share art online. I have had a really difficult past year financially and need some help in order to pay my bills and medical debt.
In July of 2024 I had to undergo hernia repair surgery, I was unable to walk or work while in excruciating pain. The sick days I had to take for my hernia before my first operation, as well as the time off taken for the surgery itself, led to me being let go from my job during the holidays last year, ending 2024 unemployed and even worse off. The surgery was not a success, and only 7 months later the hernia reopened and I had to be operated on again in April of 2025. It seems to be healing properly after the second surgery, but each surgery had a $3000 copay after my insurance picked up what it could, totaling $6000. I did not qualify for Medicaid or financial aid, and had to take a payment plan to keep going.
I am a full time student at UNO getting my bachelor’s degree, and in order to qualify for financial aid from the state of Nebraska, I have to be a full time student, so I can only work part time. With the cuts to the department of education and the UNO budget, my tuition increased by about 300% this year. I have already taken out student loans and did not want to take anymore, so I paid cash out of my savings.
In addition to all of this, other doctor appointments, utility bills, rent, and monthly payment plans for my debt have amounted to more than I make every month. I am picking up extra shifts at work and trying to earn money through taking art commissions online in order to try and stay afloat, and will continue to do so, but I am finally out of any savings left to pay immediate bills.
I am not good at asking for help but I have been urged by my friends to accept that I really do need help, just like anyone else.
Money donated will go to paying my immediate bills for heating, internet, car insurance, and my rent, then towards my medical debt from the two surgeries which is all one credit card.
Anything at all is appreciated, thank you and God bless.
