Far away from Folsom where I live,  are these group of very capable individuals who help make dreams come true for people like me. I am just one of many who had a dream to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. As I finalized my trip with company called Kiliwarriors Expediton, I never imagined the type of individuals who will help me realize my dream.

The story begins with my trip and ends with me realizing the value of the porters and the tough situation some of them are in to go up in the rank due to monetary situations.  Today we will talk about Kanini the mountain man who is almost a legend on Kilimanjaro. With over 300 climbs under his belt and 20yrs of working the mountain, this Maasai Warrior is relentless, soft natured and the choir master of the group.

We were 12 of us in our group this July, 3 NYPD officiers raising funds for children’s cancer hospital, 2 travel bloggers Alex and Carlos from VagaBrothers channel, 4 of us in my group, entrepreneur from India Jaideep, fresh graduate from California, Nick and Hans from Sweden returning to Kilimanjaro as a promise to himself.
A very diverse group with same goal to exp climb up to Uhuru peak.

Kanini, our camp master, made sure every day in the 9 day trip starting from morning tea/ coffee/ hot chocolate served in the tent to hot water for cleaning up, food 4 times a day and tent ready with tent boys helping us all the time.

i have not see such efficiency at camps where everything is done on time and all the while doing extra to ensure we are ready meantally and physically for the days challenge.

Those who have climbed mountains above 12000ft know how difficult it is to do anything at higher altitude when you can’t get enough oxygen.

In such places Kanini would get his troop to get us motivated with Maasai songs and dance! Oh what an energy boost it gave us all.

A well respected porter camp  master who is already one of best guides available on the mountains but needs help to get his certification and that is where you and I come in.

A college certification can cost a porter $2000 in tuition and $500 in supplies for 1 year of course work.
This money raised will go all towards tuition and other college related expenses only. Porter still has to manage daily expense for himself and family on his own.
Any additional funds raised will go towards next in line porter on path to becoming a guide.
Kiliwarriors team of Wilbert and Tom will setup direct payment for the tuition with the college.

This is our opportunity to do a small bit towards enabling individuals that are motivated, helpful and will give back to society.

For every new guide that we can bring to the mountains of Kilimanjaro, we will be in some way helping ourselves bringing our dreams to reality.

please help us get our first student to guide position!!!
