Kiki isn't even four years old yet, she deserves far more time than the 4 month estimate this cancer diagnosis gives her.
She should have years ahead of her — years of walks, adventures, cuddles, playing with her sisters and simply enjoying being a much-loved little pug.
Instead, Kiki is fighting an aggressive cancer.
Kiki came into the care of Pug Life Rescue in July, and it quickly became apparent that this beautiful little girl had significant medical needs. She underwent surgery to remove a large mammary tumour and, during the operation, the vet discovered and removed a second tumour. She was also spayed and had most of her remaining teeth removed.
Then came the news we desperately didn't want to hear
Kiki's cancer is an aggressive, mutated form and the prognosis we have been given is devastating. We have been told that the average survival time reported for dogs with this form of cancer can be as little as four months.
But Kiki is not a statistic. ❤️
Right now, she is a happy little girl who loves her walks, loves playing and has finally found her forever home with her Puggerton sisters.
She has absolutely no idea that anything is wrong with her.
And when you watch her running around, enjoying her new life and getting up to mischief with her sisters, it is incredibly difficult to accept the possibility that her time with us could be so short.
She isn't even four years old. She deserves more than four months.
This Thursday, Kiki is travelling to Paragon Referrals in Wakefield, where she will see an oncology specialist and undergo an MRI. We hope this will give us a much clearer picture of exactly what we're dealing with and, most importantly, whether there are treatment options that could give Kiki more time.
We're under no illusion about what may lie ahead. We know we may not be able to cure Kiki.
But if there is treatment that can slow this cancer down, keep her comfortable and give her more good-quality time with the family she has finally found, we want to give her that chance.
Pug Life Rescue have committed to making sure Kiki receives the veterinary care and cancer treatment she needs for the duration of her life. But specialist oncology, advanced imaging, medication and potential ongoing treatment come at a significant cost for a small rescue.
That's why we're asking for your help.
Every donation, however small, will help support Pug Life Rescue with the cost of Kiki's investigations and ongoing cancer care.
If you can't donate, please consider sharing her fundraiser. Sometimes a share can be just as important by putting Kiki's story in front of someone who can help.
Kiki has already found something incredibly precious — her forever home. ❤️
She's found her sisters. She's found her family. She's found a life where she's safe, adored and thoroughly spoilt.
Now we just want to give her as much time as we possibly can to enjoy it.
We don't know what Thursday will bring, and we're desperately hoping the specialists can give us some hope.
But whatever happens, we're going to fight for this little girl.
Kiki deserves more adventures.
She deserves more walks.
She deserves more time with her sisters.
She deserves the chance to grow older.
She deserves more than four months. ❤️
