*Due to the policy of GOFUNDME, I am not able to set up the campaign under my name (the company won’t be able to verify my identity as a foreigner). The campaign is set up by Nathan Crewe-Kluge on my behalf. ALL funds will be transferred to my bank account outside of GOFUNDME.
Hi, my name is YuChin Tseng. I am a dance artist from Taiwan. In 2015, when I was 16, I came to the United States by myself to pursue my dream of being a professional dancer. I studied under a full-tuition scholarship at the Harid Conservatory for two years. Immediately after, I was accepted into SUNY Purchase College and continued my training as a dance artist. During my time at SUNY Purchase College, I was supported by a School of the Arts partial scholarship. I also worked as a residential assistant to obtain free housing. In May 2021, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from SUNY Purchase College in New York with a dual major in Dance and Arts Management. I also had the honor to receive the 2021 Outstanding Senior Award in Dance from SUNY Purchase College. Upon graduation, I am extremely grateful and excited to be accepted into Martha Graham ll Company and to receive a scholarship from the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance. Graham ll is a two-year pre-professional dance company based in New York. The program prepares dancers for entering the professional world at large. In addition, 70% of the current company members began as a member in Graham ll. Although my training expenses are covered, I still need to figure out my living expenses to survive in this big city. As an Asian and international dancer, it’s my biggest struggle to fight for an equal opportunity on the path of being a professional dancer. Besides the disadvantage of being a non-citizen in the States and constantly worrying about visa status while pursuing the career, it’s extremely financially challenging to be an international artist because of the expense of applying for a visa, international travel fees, as well as limitations of an international visa, which refrains me from working in the States. However, I am not the one to give up and I would do anything to strive for any opportunity to pursue a professional career. I am unafraid of challenges, in fact, I welcome them, but I fear not receiving a fair opportunity to fight. Martha Graham Dance Company is one of the most prestigious companies in the States and I was beyond thrilled and grateful to be accepted into the second company this fall.
I am hoping to use this fundraiser to raise money for my upcoming journey. Your support would mean the world to me and I sincerely thank you in advance for your contribution.
If you are unable to donate at the moment, please help me share this campaign with your friends and family.
Your donation would mainly be used towards funding:
Rent, food expenses, tuition, transportation, health insurance, phone bills, .
I have calculated the minimum expenses each month and donations will NOT be used towards other personal expenses.
