After countless restless nights and stressful ER visits, I am being informed that my baby Kiki has a rare congenital condition affecting how toxins in her blood get filtered. I was always in love with her sharp yellow eyes, but that is a rare occurrence in her breed. Kiki most likely has Portosystemic Shunt, also referred to a liver shunt. Her ammonia levels are exponentially high due to her vessels’ mechanism of skipping the liver and delivering toxic blood straight to her heart.
Although I’ve been following up for months on her condition, no vet was able to identify what was causing her behavior. Since last night on April 30th 2026, she’s been experiencing focal seizures, vomiting, lethargy and other strange behavior. Today, I am being told that she needs hospitalization overnight, CT scan to determine where the vessel is, and possibly, surgery. Treatment is expensive and not covered by insurance. Her chances of survival are not great. But the other option is to put her to rest which is incredibly difficult for me to process.
Kiki means the world to me, and I am committed to making sure she has everything she needs. The funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward her care—covering food, vet visits, and other essentials. It’s been tough to keep up with these costs, but I know that with a little help, we can get through this together.
Any amount, or even just sharing this fundraiser, helps Kiki and me a long way. Thank you for reading our story and for considering lending a hand.
