"From Passion to Profession, Empowering the Next Generation of Creatives: Support our work at Kiggundu Art Studio
My name is Kiggundu Rodney, a 32-year-old Ugandan visual artist, muralist, and social entrepreneur with a passion for using art to drive change. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Makerere University and spending over 8 years creating work around identity, freedom of expression, brain health, and social justice, I founded Kiggundu Art Studio in 2022 to give back to my community.
Located in Ndejje, Wakiso District in Uganda, our independent studio is more than just a space, it's a safe haven and launchpad for early-stage creatives and fresh graduates struggling to find their footing in Uganda’s competitive art scene. Its also a space for social connection and creative engagement for all ages.
Why This Matters
In Uganda, many talented young artists fade away simply because they lack access, guidance, and opportunity. At Kiggundu Art Studio, we believe talent should never go to waste. That’s why in 2023, we launched the Apprenticeship Program—a hands-on, mentorship-driven initiative designed to nurture young artists from underserved backgrounds.
So far, the program has mentored over 10 apprentices, many of whom have gone on to become mentors themselves—paying it forward, and keeping the creative flame alive.
✨ Our Vision
We're on a mission to expand this program and make it even more impactful, inclusive, and experiential. With your support, we aim to:
- Cover over head costs and provide stipends to mentors who dedicate time and expertise
- Supply essential materials to apprentices who can't afford them
- Redesign our website to improve access and showcase talent
- Promote artworks to open up real market opportunities
- Host art retreats for deeper learning, intergenerational creative engagement and personal growth
Why We Need You
This is more than an art program—it's a lifeline for young creatives who might otherwise give up on their dreams. Every contribution helps us build a future where creativity is not a privilege, but a possibility for all.
With your help, we can continue turning raw passion into lasting careers, one apprentice at a time.
Join us. Invest in the future of creativity. Donate today. Share our story. Be part of something transformative.
