Whoever you are........wherever you are.......thank you for reading this.
None of us can control the hand we are dealt in this life. But, sometimes, it seems there are good people........hard workers, love their family, responsible, honest, kind, and play by the rules........who can't catch a break. Keith Horne, a dear friend since childhood, is one of those people.
Keith, 43, is suffering far beyond my ability to describe it in words. In June, he was diagnosed with a rare condition, Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis (CVST). It occurs when a blood clot forms in the brain's venous sinuses and prevents blood from draining out. Spreading rapidly, this spiderweb-like blood clot has now enveloped his entire brain, even wrapping around the carotid and jugular blood vessels in his neck. To make matters worse, it has advanced into both eye sockets.......leaving him blind in his left eye and with only 66% sight in his right. Keith has not been able to work since May. Since that time, he has been to see various specialists 104 times, suffered two strokes, and spent 17 days in intensive care (IC). Not counting lost wages, his medical bills now exceed $100,000 dollars. As if this heartless blood clot hasn't wreaked enough havoc, it has taken his home, vehicle, and job. With no income, he has moved back into his parent's house. With his need beyond obvious, he is still fighting to get disability and Medicaid benefits.
Next month (November), Keith will undergo a high-risk, extremely delicate, surgical procedure to remove this relentless invader from his body. Besides the clear risks to his survival, this surgery may, if he survives, leave him with months of rehabilitation to reclaim some level of functionality and normalcy.
He has three (3) daughters, Callie, Madison, and Bexley.......16-year old twins and a 5-year old.......that love and need their father.
For the time being, the smallest joys of life are beyond the reach of my friend, Keith. But, together with our prayers and charity, I hope he will see better days.
Regardless of the amount, I hope you will find it in your heart to give anything you can to help him pay medical bills and just survive in general.
Thanks and God bless you and your family.
