Hello everyone. My name is Kieshanna and I am a 37-year-old woman and a victim of gun violence. On September 28, 2024, my life changed forever. I was attending a family event when a person at the party decided to let their rage and anger take over on everyone and started shooting. Unfortunately, I was apart of aftermath of that rage. I received four gunshot wounds: three in my left leg (mid-thigh, right under the knee, and mid-calf) and one in my right foot (right big toe joint).
I am unable to work due to having to regain strength in my limbs. I am a postal worker, and my limbs are a major part of my duties. I am using a walker, but each day I push myself to be able to stand on my own without assistance. Each day I am building myself up physically because I have a child to be strong for. I am a single parent who still has to provide for my daughter. However, mentally, I am not as strong. I have PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I am a very happy, hard-working, and full-of-life person, but this event changed me in some ways.
The only reason I can think as positively as I can is due to my 8-year-old daughter. She is my sunshine in my dark horizon most days. She keeps me going when I want to give up at times. Since I am not working, I have no income to take care of my household. Any donations will be appreciated to the truest form. Truly, I am in tears writing this because I never would have thought I would be writing this for myself. However, I am grateful to be here to even write this passage.
I want to thank everyone for reading my story and for even considering helping us out in our time of need. I am truly appreciative, thankful, and grateful.
