UPDATE as of 12/27/2025
Kiara is back in Boston! After a brief stay at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, she is now at Spaulding recovering. It’s been a long road, and she has an even longer road ahead. We are so grateful for all of your support, messages, and love along the way. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

UPDATE as of 12/19/2025
Kiara remains hospitalized in Costa Rica. Obtaining her medical records was an uphill battle, but we’ve finally received them. Her floor nurses have been incredible throughout this entire journey. We have strong support waiting for her at home, and plans are in place for her to be transferred to a hospital in Boston, followed by Spaulding for rehabilitation. We are currently waiting for an air ambulance company to coordinate her return and are hopeful she will be able to fly back early next week.

UPDATE as of 12/14/2025
Kiara is still in hospitalized in Costa Rica, but has expressed immense gratitude for the donations and support of those rooting for her recovery at home. She is still in a lot of pain and requires frequent repositioning, but is doing okay. She is holding onto hope of returning home as soon as possible, despite how difficult it has been to coordinate transfer with limited hospital resources available to help us.

She has been so incredibly strong and as her friends and family, we are so proud of her. We can’t wait for her to get home and focus solely on her recovery. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

UPDATE as of 12/10/2025
Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and donations. Kiara had surgery yesterday in Costa Rica. There were no complications and she is in a room recovering. We are still hoping to get her back to the US as soon as possible to begin her recovery.

UPDATE as of 12/08/2025
Please keep Kiara in your thoughts and prayers as she has been scheduled for spinal surgery tomorrow. We were hoping she could fly back to Boston for it, but her doctor’s say she is not stable enough for helicopter transport.

Her mother and brother have flown down and are keeping her spirits up as much as possible. The future is very uncertain, but we are deeply grateful for every donation, message, share, and prayer

-------

On a recent vacation to Costa Rica, 29-year-old ER nurse Kiara Diaz suffered a devastating injury. While hiking and exploring El Miro, a well-known tourist attraction in Jaco, Kiara suddenly fell through the floor and dropped 15 feet below. She was having the time of her life exploring the country, hiking, zip-lining, sightseeing, and enjoying the experience with two of her friends from nursing school. In an instant, everything changed.

Kiara is currently hospitalized in Costa Rica with fractures at T11 and T12, leaving her paralyzed, along with a broken shoulder. She is facing an uncertain and difficult road ahead that will include complex medical care, long-term rehabilitation, and major life adjustments.

At her current hospital, she has received very limited medical care. She has been lying in the hallway without monitoring or surgical intervention since she arrived.

Being seriously injured in another country has made an already overwhelming situation even harder. Kiara is far from home, her family, her medical support system, and the comfort of familiar surroundings. The immediate goal is to arrange a medical flight to bring her back to the United States safely, where she can continue treatment and begin rehabilitation closer to her loved ones.

Funds raised will go toward:
• Medical flight back to the United States
• Current hospital bills and ongoing medical care
• Rehabilitation and physical therapy
• Medical equipment, mobility aids and possible home modifications
• Support for living expenses and lost income during recovery

Kiara has spent her career caring for others. As an ER nurse, she has devoted herself to helping people heal and feel safe at their worst. Now she needs that same care and support in return.

Any amount is greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page. Your support, prayers, and kindness mean more than words can express.

Thank you for standing with Kiara and her family as she begins the hardest journey of her life.
