We are reaching out with heavy hearts to share the story of Kiah, a loving daughter and friend whose life has been turned upside down by the recent Altadena wildfire. Born and raised in Michigan, Kiah moved to California to begin a new life together with her fiance. This past year had been one of hope and hard work as they poured everything they had—emotionally and financially—into creating their dream starter home. Tragically, they lost it all in an instant, and they need our help to begin again.
They purchased this home in March 2024, their first– a milestone they had worked tirelessly to achieve, only to find that the home they just purchased was also enveloped with mold. This was more than a house to them; it was supposed to be a sanctuary, especially for Kiah, who has battled severe mold allergies for years. They invested their savings, energy, and love into making this home a safe and healing environment. In fact, they had just started a $20,000 mold remediation project, their final step in ensuring the house was a place of comfort and recovery.
As the holidays approached, Kiah and her fiance flew to Michigan to celebrate with their families, excited to share stories of their renovations and progress, while the mold remediation took place. On Tuesday January 7th at 9am they received the great news from the mold remediation company that the last evidence of mold was gone and they would be returning to a healthy home. By 9am the next day their home was gone from the fires. The wildfire swept through Altadena, destroying their home entirely.
Because they were out of state, they couldn’t save anything. Their sentimental keepsakes, furniture, clothing, and all the belongings they had accumulated over the years are gone. The home they worked so hard to build is now ashes, leaving them with nothing but the clothes they packed for their trip.
Kiah and her fiance are devastated. They don’t know where to begin or how to move forward. What was meant to be their safe haven, their place of healing and new beginnings, has vanished.
We are starting this GoFundMe to help them get back on their feet.
Kiah has always been the kind of person who pours love and kindness into her community. Now, she needs that kindness in return. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference in helping them take their first steps toward recovery.
Please consider donating, sharing their story, and keeping them in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. Together, we can show them they are not alone and help them find hope in the face of unimaginable loss.
Thank you for your generosity and support.
