Khristine is my friend and coworker, and she’s one of the most resilient people I know. In 2016, Khristine learned that her kidneys had shrunk and she was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure caused by IgA Nephropathy. After extensive testing, her brother generously donated one of his kidneys in August 2016. Sadly, after just a year, Khristine’s body began to reject the transplanted kidney. She underwent plasma aphaeresis and IVIG treatments to slow the rejection and save the kidney, but in December 2024, the transplanted kidney gave up.
Since then, Khristine has started home peritoneal dialysis and is now active on the National Transplant List, hoping for another chance at a healthy life. What’s remarkable is that despite daily dialysis and ongoing health challenges, Khristine continues to work full time and provide exceptional care to our patients. She never complains about her circumstances, and her strength is a shock to many who learn about her journey.
Khristine’s greatest wish right now is to travel home to the Philippines to see her family while she’s still able. The funds raised will help cover her travel expenses and make this reunion possible. If you are able to, please consider donating to help send her home to see her family. If you would like to see if you’re a match for her to receive your kidney, you can visit http://ewebapps.ccf.org/LivingDonorKidney or call [phone redacted] for more information.
