Help Khara and Thomas with a Speedy Recovery
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Julia and I am fundraising for my mom (Khara) and new baby brother. Khara tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, October 22 while she was 27 weeks pregnant. She ended up going to the hospital a week later when she developed a terrible cough to make sure that the baby was doing okay. When she got to the local hospital they quickly realized that both Khara and the baby were not doing well. At that point, they transferred her up to Dartmouth Medical Center in Lebanon, NH to make sure she was getting the best treatment and that she would be in the best place in case anything did end up happening. Once she got to Dartmouth, doctors thought it would be best to put Khara on a ventilator and sedate her in an attempt to give her body a break. While on the vent, both she and the baby remained stable. I got a call on November 8 saying that doctors wanted to do an emergency c-section because they were worried about her and the baby. My dad, brother, and I rushed to the hospital so that we could be with her but because of the pandemic and the fact that she is in the ICU, she is only allowed one visitor at a time (we are more than grateful to even have that option). The next day, November 9, Khara ended up having a c-section that led to the birth of my new little brother. He was born at 28 weeks, weighing 2 pounds and 15 ounces, so he was rushed immediately to the NICU for support. Now that the baby is out and my mom can take care of herself, she is doing a lot better and doctors are hoping to take her breathing tube out in the next few days so she will finally be awake after two weeks if all goes as planned. On the other hand, the baby is not doing as well as she is. He was put in a medically induced coma today in an attempt to allow his body to recover. All of this has been very overwhelming and tough to go through, but we are all very hopeful that both of them will make a successful recovery.
Knowing all of this, doctors are expecting Khara to be in the hospital for a few more weeks at a minimum and the baby will most likely stay in the NICU until around his due date which was in late January. Once Khara is healthy enough to leave the hospital, she is going to be facing months of recovery time if not longer. As everyone knows, all of this is going to be extremely expensive so I am asking for help with medical bills, baby supplies (because we all thought we had almost three months to get them), transportation costs from home to the hospital, and I'm sure I am missing even more expenses as my mom usually handled them all. Any help would be extremely appreciated, but more than that, please keep her and the baby in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you all so much for the kind words, I will make sure to share any big updates!
