Help Khaleesi have a normal lifespan
Donation protected
My stepdog (partner’s dog) Khaleesi, is a 5 year old Australian Shepherd who was recently diagnosed with a Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a congenital heart defect. Essentially this means that her pulmonary artery and aorta are connected by a small duct that should have closed naturally at birth, causing her heart to work overtime as not all of the oxygenated blood her heart pumps ever makes it to her body.
There are two two types of surgery that can rectify this issue, but we need to do it soon as the cardiologist predicts she could begin having congestive heart failure as soon as 6 months to a year from now.
One option is an open chest surgery that, while slightly cheaper (very very slightly), has an uncomfortably high chance of her bleeding out during surgery and dying on the table. We are opting for the second option, which is sending a catheter, with a small device called an occluder, through her vein from her groin. Once deployed the occluder would block the duct and provide immediate relief and low downtime after the procedure.
My partner, Vanessa, has some money saved and can apply for CareCredit as it can be used on pets. Neither of us want to guilt trip anyone into giving money, but we know several people who have expressed a desire to help.
If you feel moved to donate and help out our sweet girl, please do. Any amount helps, even sharing this campaign if you can’t donate. We want to give Khaleesi as many years as possible.
If you’ve read all this, thank you. If you have any questions, please ask, I know I put a lot of info in here.
Thanks, from the bottom of our hearts.
