This is the toughest piece I have ever written in my life, and I ask you to kindly be patient with me.
My name is Khaled, I'm Palestinian currently living in Hamburg, Germany. After working in both the health and IT-sectors for nearly 18 years, the stress has finally caught up with my body and health.
I have only spoken on the state of my health with a small number of people and mostly kept my problems and worries to myself. Unfortunately, I can no longer afford to do this. For the past 3 years, my health has become progressively worse. Although I am usually careful, active, and managed my physical state quite well, the stress of work and life exasperated old injuries while creating new ones. While working, sometimes 10-12 hours per day, I also volunteered and was often the sole caretaker of a sick relative, compounding my already deteriorating health.
It started with slipped discs, then progressed to stenosis only to pull my neck and shoulder region along with it. The worst phase is when I feel numbness in my arms and hands, which felt worse to me than going on crutches or my troubling lower back pain. The limited therapies offered by the German national health insurance helped only to a point. Doing my best to avoid surgery, I pursued therapies that were not covered by my insurance.
Osteopathy, naturopathy, and pain management were very helpful, but also very expensive. My naturopath helped me manage the pain through manual therapy and osteopathic manipulation. However, these treatments cost me far more than I had anticipated. In addition, taking relatively strong pain and anti-inflammatory medications has caused my liver levels to worsen, and I decided to stop taking them to avoid making matters worse in the long run.
For these reasons, I am asking for your help: I have gone into debt to pay for the treatments that help me, and I need to settle it. If you can help me – even by simply forwarding this link – I would greatly appreciate it. Your donations will help me pay my medical debts for the treatments and will help me continue to manage my pain. Eventually, I hope these treatments will allow me to start walking normally again and get my life together.
