Help Khaing's family survive COVID-19

Hi, my name is Adam and I have known my friend Khaing for over a decade. Anyone who meets her is sure to appreciate her vibrant personality and can-do attitude. She has overcome numerous challenges to build an inspiring career in NYC and raise two beautiful children with her wonderful husband, Aris. I am posting this campaign in the hope that her friends and colleagues can support her family who sacrificed to ensure she had a chance at a better life here in the US, as they now need help beyond what Khaing and Aris can currently provide.

Her father, mother, and sister back home have contracted the coronavirus within the past week and have been denied admission to all local hospitals.

Her 74-year-old father should be in the ICU, as he is suffering from complications due to blood clots and only recently regained consciousness. Her mother has diabetes and low oxygen levels so is also at extreme risk. Unfortunately vaccinations there have only been given to government officials and front line responders so medical facilities remain full and nearly everyone is still at risk. After calling all 4 hospitals in the area, they said they would not accept patients with a fever and difficulty breathing.

So that brings us to GoFundMe in order to get them the minimum level of medical care at home. We have estimated the minimum expenses for the critical next two weeks to be about $7,500 which would cover a doctor, nurse, oxygen concentrator, medication, lab tests, ambulance, transportation, and various transaction fees. Given the number of unknowns in the near future, we are hoping to raise slightly more as a contingency. Should the whole family make a quick and speedy recovery, any remaining funds would be donated to others in the community.

Anyone who has followed the news knows how difficult life has been in Burma. Khaing was only able to visit her family in 2018 for the first time since 2004. Now the COVID-19 pandemic, which has been so heartbreaking for so many, is further exacerbating the realities of inequality. Please consider contributing to this amazing family who raised our friend into the proud woman we know today. Her parents have yet to meet their new grandson and need our help if they are to see him one day.

Best wishes and good health to all.
