Help Kevin With Recovery From Hit-and-run

Donation protected
As some of you know, Kevin was the victim of a hit and run, which broke his humerus- ouch!!! The injury has led to simultaneous medical bills and an inability to work. As anyone who has been in this situation before knows, it can quickly become fiscally intractable with little one can do to take direct action.

For this reason we are hoping our general community can ease this burden by floating our dear friend Kevin a bit so he can recover both financially and physically from the injury. We love Kevin and do not want him in debtor’s prison or to prolong his arm’s recovery. Think of him as an adorable pet who needs to go to the vet, if that makes it a more palatable expenditure.

Please read below for Kevin’s description of what happened and what he’s facing now.

From Kevin:
On June 5th I was biking in the bike lane through Boerum Hill. Passing down Bergen Street, a moped struck me from behind and ejected me from my bike. The moped did not stop, but a few witnesses came to my aid. Upon standing up, my left arm was slack, shaking, and too weak to raise or extend. Unfortunately, the man who hit me has not been identified and I am not sure that he will be.

At the ER, I learned I had suffered a comminuted fracture of my left humerus with displacement. To avoid the bone healing in a way that might permanently block mobility, I had surgery on June 13th to stabilize it with a metal plate and several screws into the bone, which left a roughly 6” surgical scar down my upper arm and shoulder.

In recent weeks, I have started physical therapy, but I have another 2 months ahead of me per my doctor’s treatment plan, assuming my progress tracks as he projects. I have started performing “active-assisted” exercises with my shoulder, but remain limited in range of motion and can only bear minor weight. I am still very restricted in my ability to work.

I am facing a financial cliff and will have drawn down my savings entirely by the end of the month. With few options for relief, I am reaching out to my network to seek help. With this support, I am hopeful I might recover some of what I will have lost from this, between losing my savings, spending 2 months without income, and an anticipated reduction in income over the next 1-2 months.

This has been a very challenging and painful experience and it has put me in a tough position financially. I am grateful for any help and support. Thank you!
