Help Kevin Truss and His Family Navigate Life with ALS

In November 2024, Kevin received the devastating diagnosis of bulbar onset ALS, an aggressive form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. This progressive disease has brought unimaginable challenges to Kevin and his family.

Each challenge so far has been met with remarkable strength and resilience. I am setting up this GoFundMe to help alleviate some of the financial strain they will encounter.

Kevin, an iOS software developer, had to make the difficult choice to stop working as his condition has worsened. He can no longer eat (he had a feeding tube installed in December), has difficulty speaking, and struggles with breathing. Despite these hardships, Kevin’s love for his family and his unwavering strength remain an inspiration to all who know him.

Kevin’s wife, Kate, has been a middle school Math and Science teacher with the Calgary Board of Education for 25 years, primarily teaching in the northwest part of Calgary. Together, they are raising two incredible children: Emma and Daniel. Emma, 17, will graduate high school this June. Inspired by her dad, she hopes to follow in his footsteps and pursue a career in engineering. Daniel, 15, is a grade 10 student and passionate hockey player with the Raiders U18 BC3 White team. In November, a week after Kevin’s diagnosis, Daniel broke his ankle during a game but is working hard to recover and return to the ice.

As Kevin’s condition progresses, the family faces the reality that they must modify their home to accommodate his current and future needs. These renovations will help improve Kevin’s quality of life and make it easier for Kate to care for him in their home.
