Hi, my name is Rumi Nishimura, and I'm raising funds to support my son, Kevin Blakeslee, who is recovering from a devastating accident that turned his life upside down.
Earlier this year, Kevin moved from Denver to San Antonio hoping to start fresh. Just two months later, in late April 2025, he was in a serious accident that left him with multiple traumatic injuries, including:
- a fractured pelvis
- a fractured heel
- a dislocated and fractured elbow (which required external fixation and later hardware removal)
- a fractured upper arm
Since the accident, Kevin has undergone five surgeries, the most recent on June 27. He didn’t have health insurance at the time, and although he was approved for emergency public health coverage, it has only covered part of the costs. He currently has a hospital bill of over $75,000, and we’re still waiting to hear if full Medicaid will be approved.
In the meantime, many essential services — follow-up care, medications, physical therapy, and daily living expenses — are not covered at all. Kevin also doesn’t have stable housing.
As his mother, I’ve been paying for his temporary lodging, food, clothing, and transportation. I’ve done everything I can to support him, but the financial burden has become too much for me to carry alone.

- physical therapy and ongoing medical care
- daily needs like food, transportation, and clothing
- a portion of the outstanding medical bills
