Hello, All. My name is Doug. I’ve started this fundraiser in hopes of helping our mutual friend, Kevin, during this trying time. If you know him, as I do, you’re aware that his heart is what separates him from so many others-full of kindness & compassion-which he’s shared with many of us over the years. My hope is that we can all come together & help Kevin in his time of need.
The Story
Just prior to Father’s Day, Kevin was hospitalized with late stage Heart & Kidney failure, & spent a week in the hospital, losing over 40lbs in water. While in the hospital, it was found that his heart is enlarged, which will, likely, be a chronic issue. After being released, Kev made multiple lifestyle changes (healthy diet, daily exercise, etc.), shed another 30lbs, & dropped to a healthy weight. During this time, however, his blood pressure did not respond to these changes, nor medication, which brings us to today (10-7-24). In the early morning, Kevin was taken by ambulance to a local emergency room, with severe dizziness, lightheadedness, & nausea. After several hours it was determined he was suffering from 3 brain bleeds, & transferred to a trauma center capable of handling neurological emergencies, where he has been admitted into the ICU, & will remain until the bleeds are corrected, & he’s cleared to go home. At the moment, doctor’s have stabilized him, but are currently unable to determine if any permanent damage has occurred. Thankfully, he is awake, aware, & the bleeds have reduced in size, yet still present.
The Ask
For the foreseeable future, Kev will be unable to work, & will require regular visits with multiple specialists-cardiology, neurology, & nephrology. All in hopes of getting his organs to function efficiently enough, so he can enjoy a healthy, fulfilling life. As all of us know, Kevin is not the type to look for handouts, & has always reached out, in seek of work from friends & clients, rarely asks for help, & avoids placing his burdens on others, even when it’s needed, but now is not the time for him to be prideful. Depending on the severity of this emergency, at the very least, he will need physical therapy, &, possibly, more intensive therapies to get him back on his feet. This recovery will be long, difficult, & he’ll never be “in the clear,” but any help we can give will alleviate the stress on his body. The hope is that all of us can pitch in, lend any support possible, & allow him to recover, rather than worry. Any help is appreciated. Even if it’s just sharing this page with friends.
FYI. All funds will be distributed directly to Kevin, & used to cover medical bills, & any other expenses he may incur in the foreseeable future.
Also, if you’d prefer to send him support through other avenues you can. I know he has Zelle, & can be looked up by his phone number.
Lastly, Kev is receiving your messages, but cannot read them due to issues with his eyes, but sends his appreciation, & will reach out once he’s able.
To all, even those who were only able to share this page, I thank you, & so will Kevin.
