Help Kevin Heal & Keep His Beloved Husky Cayenne by His Side

Hi, my name is David Wagner.

I’m reaching out to ask for support for a dear friend of mine, Kevin Smyth. I’ve known Kevin for many years in Southern California, and recently, he became both my roommate and one of my closest friends.

Just a week ago, while we were having lunch, Kevin suffered a mild heart attack. Unfortunately, his condition worsened, requiring an urgent triple bypass open-heart surgery.

Right now, we’re facing a challenging situation. We were in the middle of moving out of our old place and must be out by March 11. However, Kevin is unable to travel due to his recovery. He can’t fly, as he needs post-surgery follow-up appointments, including having stitches removed from his chest and leg. With nowhere stable to stay during this critical healing period, I decided to start a GoFundMe to help him secure temporary accommodations near his doctors until he is cleared to travel. Efforts to go through a social worker was abysmal as all they could offer was a list of homeless shelters. Additionally, Kevin has no family in California to turn to for help during this crisis.

Besides Kevin’s medical needs, there’s another important part of his life—his 14 month old Siberian Husky, Cayenne. Since Kevin can’t care for her right now, Cayenne needs to be boarded for a few weeks until they can reunite and make the trip to Kevin’s new home in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Giving up Cayenne would be traumatic, and we’re doing everything possible to keep them together.

Any contribution—big or small—will go directly toward covering Kevin’s temporary housing, travel arrangements to the east coast in a couple of weeks, uncovered medical expenses, medical follow-ups, and Cayenne’s care during this difficult time.
