My close friend Kevin, who retired not too long ago, attempted to take his life last week. He is a husband, father and brother to many! His wife and six children rely on his mentorship, faith, protection, guidance and much more! As many of us veterans struggle with the identity crisis and loss of purpose as we transition from military life to civilian life, often that is a leading factor in veterans taking their own lives. As a soldier with extreme pride in what we have done for our families, extended families, strangers, and this country, it is hard to go from being the hardened individual to one who asks for help. Especially with the stigma of the world we grew up in that asking for help is a weakness, but I expect you on the next mission to both help the helpless and shoot the enemy in the face. Nobody outside of our sisters and brothers in arms cares about the damaging toll that every single mission has on our body, mind, and soul, but we are expected to execute every day flawlessly!
I am attempting to raise money so as my friend recovers in a long-term facility in Florida that specializes in trauma/combat trauma and reintegrating to civilian life, his family is able to focus on his well-being and we all can cover their bills! Please donate if able; if unable, please pray for my friend's recovery to return to the population and spread the words of both Christ and his experience to help combat future suicide attempts from other veterans!
