Help Support Kevin Day's Family
Donation protected
Our family member, Kevin Day was diagnosed with Colon Cancer in 2020 after he experienced a lot of pain and the doctors discovering a tumor in his colon and need your help with prayers and donations.
Latest Update from Stephanie -
As many of you know, Kevin recently passed away after a brave battle with colon cancer, leaving behind his wife Amy and three young kids, Henry, Kolbe and Sammy.
Unfortunately, his family is now faced with significant medical debt and other expenses related to his passing. As you can imagine, this has been an incredibly difficult time for them, and they could use all the support they can get.
Which is why I've increased our fundraising goal to $200,000. This is the total amount of Kevin's medical bills Amy will need to pay as their insurance most likely will not cover this. Any amount you can donate, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated and will go directly to Kevin’s family (Amy & their boys) to help alleviate the financial burden they're facing. Our family is so grateful for all the support so far which has helped Kevin's family with funeral expenses & daily needs.
I know times are tough for everyone right now, but even a small donation can make a big difference. If you're not able to donate, please share this campaign with your friends and family to help spread the word. Please keep us all in your prayers during this time of grief.
Thank you all for your generosity and support for Kevin’s family. Our family is grateful beyond words can even express.
Latest Update from Kevin -
So, I have not been good at updating my cancer journey for the last year and a half, it has been a wild ride of uncertitude... In lue of this being a really long post, I will try to keep it with quick points:
--Friday, I had the incredible grace given by Bishop Olmsted with the anointing of the sick.
--2020, end of Sept, cancer/ tumor went away completely (with no evidence of cancer). However, it was short lived... 6 months the tumor came back in the same exact spot on a scan Feb of 2021 (and have been fighting ever since). *Luckily it didn't spread anywhere else!*
--Treatments this go around have not been able to shrink this stubborn tumor and now I have a massive surgery set for April 6th (the one we have been trying to avoid since 2020).
--Since July of 2020 I have been blessed to be able to work/employ a crew doing awesome home remodels. All the while doing treatments and then getting my hands dirty while not doing treatments. Once all the dust settles with surgery and treatment, I will share the incredible before and after photos.
--This time around with treatment, I stopped working as of Nov 2021 and have been out work since. This due to the incredible pain and inability to stay away from a bathroom long enough to get any work done at a job site. I originally had a date set for surgery on Jan 19th 2022. However, things didn't work out in time and had to reschedule. We tried rescheduling right away, that same week in Jan but we were not able to get a new surgery date set until April 6th due to hospital and surgeon's scheduling.
--Finally, please pray for me and my family as we continue this cancer journey, that surgery in April goes well with no complications and I can finally be done with cancer.
Good news: Kevin's PET scan showed he was in the earlier stages of colon cancer as only one area lit up. After consulting with Oncologists and Radiologist, the treatment suggested is 5 to 6 weeks of radiation treatments that cost $3700 per week. His treatment plan also includes chemotherapy, additional PET scans, and possible surgery in the future, which could bring the total cost upward to $100,000 - yikes! Thankfully, their Healthshare company has been amazing and is working to set up an HSA account they can draw funds for each visit. They are also covering most of the fees and medication after the deductible. He also was cancer free for 6 months and got to ring the cancer free bell!
Bad news:
Kevin recently changed his career path from a Farmers Insurance Agent to pursue his passion for home improvement, welding, and woodworking. He's incredibly talented, I mean just check out his work: http://www.daybuild.com Kevin is in the process of getting his Contractors license and is pretty stressed about finances since his main income is freelance work and his wife Amy is currently a stay at home mom caring for their 3 young boys ranging from 2 years old - 10yrs old. This past month Kevin has not been able to work due to Dr. visits and pain. His radiation treatment and chemo medication may have side effects that will prevent him from working, or work significantly less. Kevin's treatment will be 5-6 weeks of Chemo and Radiation. In efforts to try and not have to do surgery, the Radiologist wants to bump up the radiation therapy to a higher level which could cause a lot more pain through the process. Then a 5-6 week break, re-assess then either 5-6 more weeks of Chemo or surgery. Since they are going the surgery route, it will be a minimum of 2 months of down time without being able to lift anything, then after that, it could be another 5-6 weeks of Chemo. This will also entail a life long colostomy bag so prayers are needed for no additional side effects along with this. Needless to say, Kevin & Amy are tight on cash for their mortgage, bills, and living costs for a family of 5 without Kevin working full time.
Here's how you can help:
We are seeking help from our family and friends to contribute a donation to his treatment and living costs to ease their fears, stress and financial strain during this difficult time. It's Kevin's 40th birthday today - March 16th and what an amazing birthday present it would be to feel the support & love from everyone! Since Kevin's family also have artistic talents - we are pulling together to create gifts for donors who give over $50!
Kevin and Amy are devoted Catholics, so upon request can have a Mass said for the donor in lieu of donor gifts if they are Catholic.
Prayers:
We would also appreciate your prayers for direction & guidance for emotional, physical, & financial support. If you can also pray that Kevin's surgery goes well with the best possible outcome. Pray for the surgeons that will be operating on him and all the nurses and staff working in perfect harmony. We're all so grateful we have an amazing group of prayer warriors. All things are possible with God.
