On Sunday, November 30th, my close friend Kevin’s wife, Rebecca, was involved in a horrific car accident caused by a suspected drunk driver. The crash was so severe that the jaws of life had to be used to free her from the vehicle. She was airlifted to Lawnwood Medical Center, where doctors confirmed she sustained multiple serious injuries with the potential for long-term complications. Due to the severity of her condition, she was transported to a hospital in Miami, where she is scheduled for emergency surgery on her spine and neck tomorrow morning. On Wednesday, the orthopedic team will operate to repair a fracture on her right arm and place an external fixator on her femur. Rebecca faces many surgeries and procedures in the coming weeks.

This tragedy has completely shattered Kevin and his family. I’ve known Kevin for 19 years, and he has always been one of the kindest, most selfless people I know. Kevin and Rebecca are truly good people with a close, loving family. Kevin has worked at Publix for 36 years and currently serves as an assistant grocery manager. Anyone who knows him knows how hard he works, how much he gives, and how deeply he loves his family. Now, he faces the unimaginable as he supports his wife through a long and uncertain recovery. He will need to take time away from work to be by her side, care for her, and help navigate the difficult road ahead.

Rebecca is a dedicated nurse with 34 years of experience, having worked at healthcare facilities throughout Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, and St. Lucie counties. For the past four years, she has served as an RN in the Pediatric ICU (PICU) at HCA Lawnwood Medical Center.
