We are raising funds to help the family of our colleague Prof. Kevin France (University of Colorado), who lost their house to the Marshall fire outside Boulder CO, on Dec 30/31, 2021. All funds will be applied to meet the immediate needs of the family as they specify. The family will be in temporary housing for the near future and we are raising funds to help them get their household re-established as the first priority.
More details:
- the organizers of this fundraiser are Jason Tumlinson (JHU/STScI, Baltimore) and John O’Meara (Keck, Waimea), two professional colleagues of Prof France who have worked closely with him on the NASA-sponsored LUVOIR mission study team.
- The campaign is being funded by other teammates and collaborators of his to assist the family in need and in honor of Kevin’s service and leadership within the astronomy community.
- We have been in touch with Kevin all through this process to ensure the funds are collected and disbursed according to his preferences and the needs of his family.
- So far we have delivered electronic gift cards for eg, Target and Macy’s to Kevin to get the family started on re-establishing their household in temporary housing. We plan to continue this method of using the funds for the time being, until Kevin directs us otherwise or funds are exhausted. To minimize overheads for Kevin, Tumlinson is managing the funds and sending gift cards for the family’s use.
- The France family and the GoFundMe organizers are most grateful for your donations!
