6 weeks after they got married, Kevin was advised both kidneys were failing. 2 years later, Kevin started dialysis - 4 hours, 3 times a week. He had a mild stroke because he was allergic to iv med used for dialysis , numerous surgeries on his dialysis arm including 2 aneurysms being removed, and a catheter in his neck.
March 2021, Kevin fell while getting lunch at Papa John’s & was rushed to the hospital for bleeding on his brain. Surgeon had to remove half of his skull & place it in his stomach to preserve it. He had 6 brain surgeries in less than 3 months, 2 blood transfusions, VP shunt placed in his head, intubated for 5 days, 8 tubes draining blood & fluid from his brain, wore neck brace & helmet, paralyzed on left side, ICU psychosis, 6 months of physical, occupational, & speech therapy. Doctors have said he’s like a miracle because he was 95% like his normal self again & didn’t need any assistance eating, walking, or doing everyday tasks
Nov 3, 2022 was a day he’s being praying & waiting for - Kidney Transplant Day! In 9 months, he spent 80 days in the hospital, 25 outpatient IV infusions, 3 kidney biopsies, numerous ultrasounds ,8 additional procedures, mental status changes, had covid, pneumonia twice, & norovirus, & currently is on 28 daily meds!
After working at Honda for 24 years, his wife, Amy had to separate from the company because the DE office closed & she couldn’t relocate to GA. Since he is still in and out of the hospital it is making it difficult for her to find a new job. They have a lot of expenses with parking fees and gas not to mention copays, medicine and bills.
