Help Kevin After Total Housefire - Route 321

Hello,

My name is Hunter Simmons. I am starting this fundraiser for my father, Kevin, who lost his home to a severe house fire on January 4th, 2022. My father is currently staying in a motel with zero items of clothing. My grandmother Pearly, my dad Kevin, and my Uncle Brian only walked out of this house with only the clothing on their backs, but are thankful for the safety of their family. This house fire happened extremely fast — a small, unlivable back portion of the house was the only part saved, but it has heavy water and smoke damage. We send out our warmest thank you to the dozens and dozens of emergency personnel and volunteer firefighters who were there early into the next morning.

Kevin was in the house with my 89 year old grandmother, Pearl. Luckily, all of the residents of the farmhouse were able to escape along with their dog. We are blessed that everyone is okay.

My dad lived in an apartment that he rented inside of the house. He is low-income and disabled. With this crisis, he is facing extreme financial hardship this winter. He is facing homelessness in the long term.

The farmhouse that burnt down was a staple in the Jordan-Elbridge community. Anyone who drives on Rt. 321 would recognize the beautiful brickwork and acres of bucolic land. This house is nearly 200 years old and has provided a home for my father since he was born in 1963 and Pearl since she moved in around 1958. This is where my grandma Pearl would make delicious blackberry jams and pies to give to her community, where my dad taught me about nature and hunting, and where any of my cousins could go and sleep in if we ever got in trouble with our parents.

We know we can never replace the memories of this house that raised countless cousins of mine. However, we are hoping to support this family in a time of crisis. There is a long road ahead filled with many questions-- can we rebuild on the farm? Where do we go from here? Where will we be next week?

What will donations go towards?

Donations will go to support Kevin's living expenses.

  • Money for motel stays
  • Winter clothing
  • Groceries
  • Rent money for a long-term place to stay with Grandma Pearl or rebuilding a new home
  • Bathroom essentials (towels, toothpaste, toiletries, etc.)

The vast majority of this fund will indeed be used to prevent Kevin from homelessness and provide him with enough to stay at motels and hotels in the meantime. The goal is also to save enough to find a new place in Elbridge or Jordan to rent.

To specify, the money raised here will go towards Kevin, as he is my father and I wanted to make a donation page that is specific towards his needs at this time.
