Aloha. We’re seeking your support after two devastating events—a burglary at our home on November 30, 2024, and a fire on December 15, 2024, at our business, Moonsun Art Gallery. Our space in Kainaliu, Hawai’i, has been a space for creativity and connection, especially for underserved communities, and the burglary left Melody with just the clothes on her back.
This GoFundMe will help cover immediate expenses as we work to rebuild our lives and continue our mission of creativity, connection, and social justice through the arts.

Hi, we’re Kerry and Melody, co-founders of Moonsun Art Gallery in Kealakekua (Kainaliu), Hawai’i.
On the morning of December 15, 2024, we received a call from friends at So’K Coffee Station—a fire had broken out. As we drove the 3.5 miles to Kainaliu, watching smoke rise into the morning sky, our first thoughts were for the lives and livelihoods at risk.
When we arrived, relief and sorrow mingled in our hearts. We thank the Creator for protecting everyone in the building, the first responders who acted swiftly, and those working tirelessly to clean and heal the ‘āina (earth). Bless-up to them all.
This fire, combined with the recent burglary, has left us at a crossroads. While we’ve managed to recover some artwork from the gallery, much was lost. Nearly all of our personal belongings were taken in the burglary.
In the days since, we’ve reflected, mourned, and found strength in the embrace of our ‘Ohana—those here, those afar, and those yet to come. Through it all, we are deeply grateful.
Despite the devastation, one thing is certain: we want to rebuild.
Thank you for being part of this journey as we move forward with hope and determination. Blessings upon blessings to you all—you are helping us rebuild something truly beautiful and meaningful for our community.
As a gesture of gratitude, Kerry is creating a commemorative acrylic painting inspired by the Old Bowling Alley building in Kainaliu, where Moonsun is now. This 2x2 ft artwork on birch wood celebrates our community’s resilience and the stories that shaped this iconic space. Kerry began the piece on December 18, 2024, and it is expected to be completed by late January 2025.
We’re also planning a Kickstarter campaign to offer limited-edition prints of this meaningful artwork. Stay tuned for updates!
Every donor, no matter the amount, will receive a high-quality digital download of Kerry’s commemorative artwork by filling out this Google Form after donating. Digital downloads will be emailed within 30 days of the artwork’s completion (expected by late January 2025).
