Help Kerri and family
Donation protected
We have been amazed and truly appreciate the outpouring of support for Kerri and her family. The initial goal was set arbitrarily. The scope of the expenses they will see in the upcoming months is difficult to estimate. Kerri is still unable to use the stove and requires assistance walking out side of home in addition to tasks at home. She will need someone staying with her once Josh returns to work in May. Her attitude is inspiring and she has a clear desire to (as her cousin, Donna, stated) "live meaningfully". The boys and her family are her inspiration and the driving force. Positive note is that communication is coming along very nicely.
Kerri's recovery process is presenting to be lengthy with unforeseen challenges so if you have the intention of helping please consider doing so. The entire family is incredibly grateful!
For those first seeing this, here is the initial post:
Early this year Kerri's brain cancer (first treated in 2016) resurfaced as a very fast growing frontal lobe tumor with the same genetic markers. She had surgery at UCSF within days (Feb 5) expecting a release to home in about 4 days. The surgery was more extensive than predicted, she was hospitalized for 9 days, then transferred to acute neurological rehabilitation at Mercy Hospital in Sacramento for 2 weeks. Recovery has been slow and questionable, currently requiring full time supervision. Her speech has recovered well but the small motor skills are lagging significantly. As a result, Josh has had to take a 3 month leave from work and she is clearly unable to work (or even drive). In addition to the strain of living expenses, the out of pocket financial costs of the chemotherapy have greatly compounded the situation.
So many family members and friends have inquired what can be done to help. So we are establishing an account through which they can help to offset some of this burden if they desire to help the Garcia family in this manner.
Thank you all for the outpouring of prayers, sentiments, and support - all helps immensely in letting them know they are not alone in this battle!
