McKenzie, and is a brave young adult from New Albany, Oregon, fighting to regain my strength after being severely impacted by Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM). This rare condition left her with very little movement and dependent on a ventilator 24/7. But despite these challenges, she refuses to give up—because there’s hope at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Maryland, where cutting-edge therapy could help her further her independence.
Why This Journey Matters:
Kennedy Krieger is one of the world’s leading centers for AFM rehabilitation, offering intensive therapies like functional electrical stimulation, gait training, and aquatic therapy—all designed to help patients like Kenzie regain movement, strength, and function. Experts agree that, aggressive rehab is critical for recovery, and this could be her best chance to:
Weight-bear and stand, spending precious time out of her wheelchair
Expand her range of motion and rebuild muscle strength
Challenge her limits with the latest medical technology
The Problem: Getting There Is Half the Battle
Because of her ventilator and complex medical needs, she can’t fly commercially. Only a few specialized medical transport companies can make this trip—and a coast-to-coast round trip is financially out of reach. Without this option, the only choice is a cross-country road trip with her mom and nurse, ensuring my safety while traveling.
How You Can Help:
Every dollar raised will go directly toward:
Gas & vehicle expenses for the long journey from Oregon to Maryland
(and back!)
Medical supplies & incidentals to keep me safe and comfortable
Lodging & food for Kenzie, her mom, and nurse during the trip and therapy stay
This treatment could change her life—but she can’t do it alone. Your support will give me the chance to work with world-class specialists, gain strength, and take steps toward a brighter future.
Join the Fight and make the Journey possible:
AFM may have taken so much from me, but with your help, I can fight to get it back. Please donate and share my story—every contribution brings me closer to the therapy I desperately need.
