Support Kent and family as they kick cancer's butt!
Kent went in for a standard colonoscopy the day before his 46th birthday; during it, the doctor removed a large polyp and had it biopsied. A week later, on the way to watch his youngest son's end of year performance, he got the call that a malignancy had been identified.
After much consideration and conversation with physicians, Kent and Brittany decided Emory was the ideal place for his care, despite being 4.5 hours from their home in Southwest Georgia.
Quickly after the first appointment at Emory, Kent was scheduled for a Laparoscopic Sigmoid Resection, a surgical procedure which will remove part of his colon, on June 18, 2025, at Emory's Winship Cancer Institute.
During this surgery, the medical team will also biopsy his lymph nodes to determine if the cancer has spread. Then, after they've determined the level of metastasis, specialists will classify the stage of cancer.
The in-hospital recovery time for this surgery is 3 days, while at-home recovery is expected to be a month or longer. We will not know if Kent will need additional treatment interventions like chemotherapy until after the surgery, but are optimistic that he will be in the clear.
Regardless, Kent will to be out of work during his recovery from the June 18 surgery, while Britt will spend the summer balancing full time work while continuing to take care of Kent and their 3 children.
Amidst so much uncertainty being able to show up for one another will keep us connected to what matters most. Please know, if you are able to contribute in any way, it will truly be met with the most genuine heartfelt gratitude. Not just from Kent and Brittany Grace but all of us who love them and their beautiful family so much.
