Kenny came to live with us in June 2020 when he was almost 5. We were his 4th foster home in 8 months. We adopted him in 2022. He was exposed to trauma in his early years, which essentially re-wired his brain to be in flight or fight mode. We have been struggling for quite some time with his behaviors, which have gotten increasingly violent. We have found an incredible doctor who we believe can help Kenny. We are going to take him to Irvine next week and get a brain-mapping done. We will then start neurofeedback treatments. We will do the first treatment in Irvine and then bring everything we need home to do the treatments remotely. We have an amazing opportunity to try and help re-wire Kenny’s trauma brain. The unfortunate part is that none of it is covered by insurance. The doctor says we are in a critical window for Kenny. Treatment is most successful before age 11 (he will be 10 in September) and before puberty. We can’t wait. They will give us a 2-year interest-free loan. We are trusting that God will supply. It’s a big step of faith, but we are feeling certain that this should be our next step.
