Help Kenny Heal: A Nurse’s Road to Recovery

Hi, my name is Jannessa,and I’m a labor and delivery nurse. I’ve dedicated my life to helping bring new life into this world and supporting families during one of the most special—and vulnerable—moments of their lives.

It was through my journey in healthcare and creating content that I met one of the most beautiful souls, Kenny,while in Dallas. Kenny is a postpartum nurse, someone who has spent her career selflessly caring for new mothers and their precious babies. She’s the kind of person who shows up for others with compassion, strength, and the biggest heart. But now, she needs us to show up for her.

On what was supposed to be a relaxing night off, Kenny went to visit her sister. On her way home, her life was forever changed. A devastating accident occurred—her car was hit and crushed by a large truck. In that horrific moment, she almost lost her life.

Kenny suffered a traumatic brain injury and a severe spinal injury. She’s undergone multiple complex surgeries to stop a brain bleed and operate on her spine in hopes of helping her walk again. By the grace of God, she survived. She is now in intensive physical and speech therapy, bravely working to rebuild her strength and learn how to navigate this new reality.

Due to the extent of her injuries, Kenny will not be able to return to work for quite some time. As nurses, we’re used to being the caregivers—but now Kenny needs care, support, and love. She cannot stand or sit for long periods, which makes even the most basic daily tasks a challenge.

Despite all of this, Kenny’s spirit remains strong. We believe God has a bigger purpose for her life, and that she is here for a reason. As she fights to heal, I want to help ease some of the financial stress that comes with such a life-altering event—medical bills, rehabilitation, and simply living while unable to work.
