Help Kenny Get A Tongue and Jaw

My name is Teri. I met Kenny in April 2021 on my travel nurse journey. I was his home care nurse after his life changed dramatically from oral cancer. Kenny lost his job due to COVID and therefore lost his insurance. He went to the dentist after noticing a spot on his gums. He was misdiagnosed by his dentist, who said it was oral thrush, and after treating it as such for months, it got much worse. He was then sent to three different ENT MDs and finally found one that could help him. It was difficult getting appointments during COVID, and it was already too late. The cancer had spread throughout his mouth very quickly. While waiting for surgery, two months before, he was rushed to the ER and was found to be malnourished due to the inability to eat and needed a blood transfusion. Kenny's doctor had to cut out his tongue, bottom jaw, and the floor of his mouth. The surgery failed due to malnourishment. Kenny was discharged home to a complete nightmare. His face was completely deformed with a hole remaining in his cheek after. As a nurse, I had never seen anything like it in my 25 years on the job. I always told Kenny to never give up! And now, here we are with an opportunity to help reconstruct his mouth. Kenny's doctor wants to do a full reconstruction, including dental implants and a tongue. He is waiting to hear back from his insurance company but unlikely they will cover this surgery. His insurance company dropped him after paying for almost everything and now now his co-pay for just a one night stay in the hospital is now $475/ night. He is expected to stay in the hospital 2 to 3 weeks. I know we can make this happen for Kenny! It would be a miracle if he could just enjoy a cup of coffee again! Or even just a glass of water...
