My name is Kenneth Merculief, and I’ve called Juneau home my entire life. On December 29, I experienced the total loss of my vessel after a period of heavy snowfall. Just two days before, I had shoveled the boat, but my commitment to helping my community—working 16-hour shifts plowing local roads and driveways—meant I couldn’t return in time to clear the deck again. The weight of the snow proved too much, and my vessel was lost.

Now, I’m facing the significant costs of transporting what remains of my boat to a scrap yard for proper disposal. This unexpected expense comes at a time when many in our community are already facing challenges, and it’s not something I can manage alone.
