Hi, my name is Kenna. I have Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism, and in 2019 I began having adverse reactions to the medication. I have been to several different specialists; at one time, I was seeing seven different doctors to “control” my symptoms. We have tried several different medications, but all of them caused severe heart palpitations and severe insomnia, where I could not sleep for several days.
In September of 2021, I was rear-ended in a car accident that caused some back injuries. I did six months of pain management and physical therapy. In June of 2022, I was rear-ended again, which caused more severe back injuries: narrowing of the spinal canal in two places, herniated discs, and sciatica. I did two years of pain management and a year of physical therapy. But without continued treatment, the pain has returned and is very debilitating, to where I sometimes can hardly walk or stand up straight.
In October of 2023, I began having severe digestive problems. It literally felt like my insides were ripping apart. I saw multiple specialists but never received a diagnosis or treatment plan.
Throughout all of this, I continued to go to work every day. I pushed through the pain, did my best to handle all my responsibilities, and worked up to 60 hours a week.
In April 2024, I ended up in the hospital because my body began shutting down. I was diagnosed with extreme fatigue disorder, severe stress disorder, and a multitude of other issues. Between work, finances, family, health, and trying to do all the right things, my mental and physical health greatly suffered. I took medical leave from work for three months to try and get back to a stable condition so I could return to work. Unfortunately, when my three months were over, I was still nowhere near being ready to return to work, so I had to quit my job that I had been at for 10 years.
Almost a year later, and physically I’m still no closer to being able to return to work.
I have applied for all sorts of assistance through the government to help me get through; however, I am repeatedly told I don’t qualify because my conditions aren’t covered, or I’m not elderly, or I don’t have any small children in my house.
I tell you all of this, despite how embarrassing it is, so you can understand why I created this GoFundMe. For the last four years, my air conditioning has broken every summer, and I live in Arizona. I used to have a home warranty that would come fix it a couple of times every summer. They refused to replace them even when the company they dispatched recommended replacement. Well, I had to cancel my home warranty because I could not afford it anymore. Last year, I had two companies quote me about $35k to replace both AC units.
Well, we are just barely beginning summer, and both my units are broken again. I don’t have the funds or the means to replace them. I have called every charity, government agency, or other potential option I could find, and so far, I again am not eligible for assistance. My homeowners insurance doesn’t cover my AC units unless it was struck by lightning, damaged in a fire, or some other catastrophe. I live in an HOA and am not allowed to have any sort of window unit, or one that has to be vented to the outside or I will be fined. So that is not an option either.
My medical conditions are exacerbated by heat and lack of sleep. So I have created this fundraiser to hopefully raise the funds needed to replace my AC units before it becomes even hotter.
