I'm Janet, an Ann Arborite assisting members of the immigrant community in this difficult time. Kenia and José came here from Honduras with their two sweet daughters after being tragically targeted by gangs, but the court did not accept his asylum claim. He is back in Honduras, and the family is stuck here, with little access to work possibilities and dependent on whatever help we can give them.
Their only desire is to give it up and go back to join him. As long as they stay away from certain areas, they should be ok. But we need help to get the passports for the girls, and a flight back on Spirit, and to get some possessions sent back. That means a trip to the Consulate in Pittsburgh, which I can't do, so there's a cost for the trip. We should be ok with $1500-1800.
It's so tragic to see so many give up everything, sell their possessions and make the long trek by bus and on foot to reach safety, only to find that they are not welcome. Now they will have to begin again, day to day, like so many others here as well.
If you're in a position to help with any amount, they will be eternally grateful. And many prayers will come your way!
