Help Kendra with her surgery!
Hi Everyone, my name is Kendra.
My life is moving onto a new phase. I have been approved for my gender reassignment surgery after 21 years of interactions with the medical community.
I met with my plastic surgeon in Vancouver on April 20th, and signed papers to prepare for my surgery. It was an exciting, but nerve wracking event. The nurse at my surgeon’s office said my surgery should happen somewhere between late August and the end of September.
I will be having what is known as a vulvaplasty. The surgery itself will take about 5 hours, and will be done by two surgeons. I will remain in VGH hospital for 5 - 7 days, depending on how well I heal (I am a diabetic, so I don’t heal quite as well as I otherwise would). At that time, I will be released as an outpatient, but must remain in Vancouver for another 10 - 14 days.
My table income last year was just over $11,000, and I was terrified at the thought of having to find a way to pay for my flights, hotel accommodations, and meals. Thankfully, I will be able to get free flights to and from Vancouver via Hope Air for myself and a support person. Hope Air is an excellent charity that provides flights for medical purposes at no charge to low income Canadians as needed, and between Hope Air and its new affiliation with the Raddison hotel group, hotel accommodations for myself and a support person should be covered.
I will need help covering the cost of meals for myself and my support person. I am definitely not going to be up to cooking, so some of that will be take-out food; other meals can be created with some bread, cold cuts, salad, fruit, etc. I am not going to be eating big fancy meals; I must eat modest portions of really health food (4x per day as a buffer for my pain and regular meds). I may need a bit of help covering things like taxi trips, meds not covered by pharmacare, and incidentals I am not currently aware of.
If you agree to donate and be part of my support team I am so grateful to have you by my side! Every cent helps! I am so looking forward to taking this affirming journey in becoming my true self.
