Help Kendall Keep Fighting
My niece Kendall has been battling a mystery ever since receiving gastric bypass surgery in 2011, in order to help save her life because her organs were going to fail within 5 years time, according to the doctors at that time. This procedure has been the starting point to many medical issues. The worst of which has been severe hypoglycemia, resulting in extreme changes in blood sugar levels, getting a blood glucose reading as low as in the 20's (around 100 is normal for adults). This is dangerously close to comatose levels, and then after an IV it will go all the way up to the 200's which is diabetic.
The past year has been especially trying. Because of this critical level insulin shock, Kendall has had to be rushed to the Emergency Room 4 times just in the last year. She has cracked open her eyebrow and needed stitches, got a concussion, broke her nose, and possibly tore a rotator cuff all from falling due to peripheral neuropathy caused by this hypoglycemia.
Kendall has lost over 40 pounds in the last 6 months without any changes to her diet. Doctors have been conducting blood test after blood test and essentially are "experimenting" with possible treatments without being able to come to a solution. She has been on countless medications, including pills and self-injections she's had to perform multiple times per day. She's needed at least 4 iron infusions, and one potassium infusion. These dangerous lows in vital nutrients puts her at risk for heart failure.
She recently had prepared for a surgical procedure only to have it cancelled at the last minute (literally as she was in the hospital in her dressing gown!), and has since been intubated. Her next procedure was supposed to be a permanent tube in her stomach, just so that she can eat, but the doctors have been considering changing their decision yet again, and she may have to have a reversal of the gastric bypass surgery.
Kendall is no stranger to the Mayo Clinic and has been needing to travel from her home in Wyoming to Minnesota in order to receive treatment. She and her mother (my sister Deniece) have had to travel twice recently and will be going again next week. This involves paying for plane tickets and hotels on top of the growing hospital bills and medical expenses piling up.
Because of all of this Kendall has been forced to have a temporary absence at her job, and both she and her family have spent tens of thousands of dollars over the years just trying to figure out how to help her. Soon she will run out of savings.
Kendall has faced many hardships throughout her life, including being witness to the loss of her loving husband Ross in 2013. She is still grieving such a traumatic passing. We also lost my mother Bonnie in 2019 who Kendall was very close with. These loved ones are watching over Kendall to help her through this difficult time and she is doing all she can to make them proud.
Throughout all of this strife Kendall has been so strong and always shows up ready to take on the next challenge. If you're her friend on Facebook you see that she always is taking pictures smiling, making jokes and reaching out to her friends and family. She never dwells on what she has to endure and instead is looking forward to the day where she will start feeling good again.
Kendall and her family have already paid so much not only with their money, but with their time, emotions, and energy over the last 8 years to try and find a solution. She could really use any kind of help you can spare.
I'm hoping to raise money to assist in some of Kendall's growing medical bills That are adding up, Also to cover travel and hotels for the clinic next week, and hopefully bring some peace of mind to my sister Deniece, her husband Frank, son Casey, and all of Kendall's extended family and friends who are rooting her on through this fight.
