Ken Rosbury is turning 78 next week — and instead of celebrating on the golf course, he’ll be starting chemotherapy to fight an aggressive cancer. If you know Ken, you know he’ll still be cracking jokes even as he takes on the fight of his life.
Earlier this year, Ken underwent knee replacement surgery with one goal in mind: to recover in time to get back out on the golf course by his birthday. Instead, he’s now preparing for six months of intensive chemotherapy after being diagnosed with Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma.
It’s been a tough year. Along with this diagnosis, Ken has also been battling kidney disease, blood clots, and recovering from surgery. But through it all, he’s remained positive, strong, and ready to fight.
In his words, “I’m going to war again.”
Ken is a proud Vietnam veteran and one of the strongest, most resilient people we know. He’s also someone who has spent his life lifting others up. For over 20 years, he worked on the oncology floor at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, caring for cancer patients and their families with compassion, humor, and kindness. Whether it was a well-timed joke, a warm meal, or simply making someone feel seen, Ken had a gift for bringing light to people during their darkest moments. He was even recognized as Employee of the Year for his dedication and the impact he made.
That’s just who he is.
Ken has a kind soul who sees people for who they are, no matter what they’re going through. He stands up for the underdog, has no tolerance for unkindness, and has a way of making people feel seen, valued, and special. And if you’ve ever spent time with him, you’ve likely been on the receiving end of one of his jokes or stories that left you smiling.
Now, it’s his turn to receive that same care and support.
Ken lives on a fixed income and has been working at Publix to help make ends meet — something he won’t be able to continue during treatment. His loving and long-time partner, Regina, works full-time and will need to take time away from work to help care for him during this time.
We’re raising funds to help cover:
- Lost income
- Medical bills and medications
- Daily living expenses during treatment
- Caregiving support for Ken and Regina
Ken loves spending time with his grandchildren, who adore his goofy stories and sense of humor. He also finds peace in painting — his version of “art therapy” — which brings him so much joy.
He’s not ready to slow down, and he’s determined to fight this with everything he has.
If you’re able to donate, any amount will make a difference. And if you can’t, sharing this page means just as much.
Let’s show Ken the same kindness and support he’s given to so many others.
